Electrical Engineering :

THE IMPORTANCE :
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, which is the application of the principles of electricity to develop machines, devices and systems, has significantly affected the quality of life. Its study continues to be an exciting proposition per capita consumption of electricity is still a measure of any country’s development. The fast depletion of fossil fuels and degradation of environment has opened the doors for clean and non-conventional energy resources. Further, the ever-growing demand for power and integration of utilities into national grids brings in complexities that today’s engineer should be equipped to meet. These are the focal points of this program.

OBJECTIVES :

  • To develop competent electrical engineers of high quality capable of facing the various challenges posed by the utilities, and the consumer at large.
  • To offer updated curriculum, allowing our graduates to exploit emerging opportunities efficiently.
  • To provide opportunities to simulate the real world in a lab environment using latest software tools.

THE CAPABLE MENTORS :
The department is headed by Prof. G. K. Joshi, M.E., Ph.D. along with a team of 10 well qualified & experienced faculty members out of which 4 Faculties are M.E./M.Tech. Prof. (Dr.) G. K. Joshi is holding the position of Head of Department and the Principal, he is supported by Er. Puneet Chaudhary, M.Tech.* for routine activities of the department.

INDUSTRY / TECHNICAL PARTNERSHIPS :
The department has exerted for making regular arrangements for industrial visits with a large number of industry such as Secure Meters, NTPC, BHEL, KTPS, DCM Shriram, Havell India etc.

DEPARTMENTAL SOCIETIES :
Students have formed a departmental society for creative and research oriented work for the department with a professional approach named “APOGEE”, A Prudent Organization of Growing Electrical Engineers”. A large number of departmental activities such as – Technical Quiz, Paper Presentation, Project Presentation, Model Making etc. are being done under the aegis of APOGEE with regularity.

LABORATORIES :
The department is having six important laboratories.

  • Electrical Machine Lab
  • Electrical Measurement Lab
  • Power Electronics & Control Lab
  • Power System & High Voltage Lab
  • R&D Lab
  • Electrical & Electronics Engineering Lab

Besides proving the theoretical knowledge of the subject, more stress is given on the practical aspects like motor winding, transformer winding, house wiring etc. All labs are well designed covering all necessary experiments strictly according to the University Syllabus, even beyond syllabi a large number of job oriented practicals are also being carried out.

Power System and High Voltage Lab : in this lab losses in Transmission & Distribution are calculated, with the help of different set-ups. Since there is no simple, Economically Viable Technology for storing Electricity we have to keep in mind the following points listed below:
  • Efficient Equipment
  • Modesty in Energy Use
  • Alternative to Energy Service

Power Electronic & Control Lab : Now a day this field becomes the fastest growing field in modern industries technology, a lot of research and development work is taking place in this field in the world. With the help of power electronic devices losses are being minimized & the accuracy & stability of the system will improve which is of prime importance in the industry, in present scenario because there is a lot of power shortage in the country.

  • Each 1% increase in production leads to 0.2% to 0.5% increase in energy consumption.
  • Challenge in India is to increase consumption while improving efficiency and thereby avoiding waste/

Electrical Measurement Lab : in this lab students learn about how to measure the basic electrical quantities like Current, Voltage, Power, and Frequency etc. Also the students here learn about the operation of various equipment which are used in the measuring of other electrical quantities like inductance, capacitance, resistance among others mainly using bridges like Anderson Bridge, De-Sauty’s Bridge, Kelvin Double Bridge, Meggar, Wein’s Bridge etc.

Electrical Machine Lab : Study of only Electrical Equipment is not sufficient, that’s why Machine lab study is very essential in electrical field. In this lab students learn the characteristic of different type of machine and their working in different industries viz. Synchronous Machine, Asynchronous Machine, DC Series Machine, DC compound Machine etc.

Electrical & Electronics Engineering Lab : Besides having theoretical knowledge a complete engineer has to equip himself with the practical knowledge. They know about the very basic of Electrical trade viz. how to connect the different equipments in a circuit? What are the different types of wiring and earthing done in our household? Staircase wiring, Workshop wiring, Different types of Motor Windings, Different types of Insulators, Different type of Fuses used in industries and houses. Knowledge is also imparted to the students about the different types of household appliances like – Fan, Geyser, Electronic Iron, Mixer and Water Heaters etc.
